Kids 'Stand for Love' in DUMBO

Photos by MK Metz
No a harsh word was said about President-elect Donald Trump last night at the “Stand for Love” event near Jane’s Carousel in DUMBO.

Instead, a large crowd of parents and kids gathered together to reject hate.

There was music of the "This Land Is Our Land" variety, kid crafts from Creatively Wild, and brief statements from local politicians.

Organized by moms from Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO, the "non-political event" was meant to "show love and support for everyone in a time when many people are in need of both."

Stock futures decline and allies question America's committments

After a bizarre campaign where he insulted more than half of the planet's inhabitants, changed his mind frequently on his post-election plans and outlined his goal to get even with women who claimed he had sexually assaulted them, TV host and non-tax-paying millionaire Donald Trump has been elected president of the United States.

Hillary Clinton Won Big In Brooklyn, Lost Big In Staten Island

Courtesy Clinton Campaign
Regardless of Hillary Clinton's performance nationally, she won solidly in Brooklyn.

According to NPR, Clinton won 79.7 percent of the Brooklyn vote, versus 17.9 percent for Trump. (Johnson got .9 percent of the vote while Stein won 1.5 percent. )

The ratio was roughly the same in Queens, with Clinton receiving 75.5 percent of the vote and Trump receiving 22.1 percent.

Clinton got even more of the vote in Manhattan (87.2 vs 10 percent) and the Bronx (88.7 vs 9.6 percent).

But the story was different in Staten Island, where Trump got 57.2 percent and Clinton received 40.4 percent of the vote.

In other races, Charles Schumer won re-election to the Senate, according to the Brooklyn Eagle.

The Eagle also tweeted that Nydia Velazquez has been re-elected to Congress.

Forest City Delays Pacific Park Brooklyn Over Real Estate Market Woes

Forest City Realty Trust suffered a net loss of $430.9 million for the three months ended September 30, 2016, mainly because of the Pacific Park mega-project.

The loss includes "an impairment of non-depreciable real estate of $307.6 million, primarily related to Pacific Park Brooklyn," FCR reports. (This is the Atlantic Yards project near Atlantic Terminal Mall.)

The company decided to revise the overall project schedule to "delay future vertical development."

Forest City blamed negative market conditions and timing. These include "the impact of increased apartment supply, uncertainty surrounding 421A tax abatement and continued escalation in construction and trade costs," the company said.

Three properties at Pacific Park Brooklyn that are part of the company's partnership with Greenland USA are still under construction:
  • 535 Carlton, a 298-unit, all-affordable apartment community, is expected to begin phased opening in the fourth quarter of 2016.
  • 550 Vanderbilt, a 278-unit condominium property, is expected to begin phased opening in the first quarter of 2017.
  • 38 Sixth Avenue, a 303-unit, all-affordable apartment community with 6,000 feet of street-level retail, is expected to begin phased opening in the second quarter of 2017
