Negotiations between trendy purveyor Urban Outfitters and Two Trees, owner of the old Independence Bank building at Atlantic and Court, have broken down, according to the Observer. "We have been in negotiations for a space at a building on Atlantic Avenue in Dumbo," Wade McDevitt of McDeviit Company, Urban Outfitters’ broker, said. [EDITOR'S NOTE: Many have noted that there is no Atlantic Avenue in Dumbo.] "We looked at a building on the corner of Atlantic and Court Street, but the asking rent was too high."
Now Two Trees must find another retailer to fill the vaulted interior of the grand, cathedral-like bank building.
Two Trees also has another large retail space to fill on Atlantic, according to the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. It is the former home of Clinton House Furniture, at 164-168 Atlantic Ave. in Cobble Hill, where David and Jed Walentas created 18 new apartments above 4,600+ square foot space.
