Community groups and Councilman Yassky, fighting Dumbo's Dock Street development, want the Dept. of Education to put a middle school in Brooklyn Heights' P.S. 8 instead, according to the Brooklyn Eagle. The Brooklyn Heights Association says they'll even pay for the study.
But DOE says its not getting into this. From their point of view, this makes sense. It's not the DOE who decides whether the Dock Street building will block views from the bridge. Why pay for a school building when a developer (Two Trees) is offering one for free?

It's a done deal. A an existing meddle school has been picked and is ready to move in.
ReplyDeleteYou can not deface a National Monument... A five story building would be fine but seventeen stories is nothing but a bunch of totally greedy slobs that could care less about our Nations history.
ReplyDeleteDumbo does not even need a school... There are maybe 12 kids that age living here if that... It would be the children from the projects down the road and not that they don't need a good education but they do not need to deface a monument to do it... Two Trees has two other buildings that have been given to Galleries, if their hearts are so big, they would be perfect!!!
There was a middle school in P.S.8 until about 10 or 15 years ago.
