Six people in one building just decided to redecorate.
All we know is, some people walked around this pile o' mattresses (on the northernmost end of Henry Street in Brooklyn Heights) as if they were radioactive. Others didn't even seem to be aware that they shouldn't walk too close. Probably a few people took some home eventually.
Last week we saw (roughly, because we didn't really start counting until we had, unconsciously, seen four or five already) about ten mattresses on the sidewalk in the Brooklyn Heights area.
Meanwhile, the Brooklyn Eagle just came out with part 2 of their bed bug series. This one's called "The Secret Life of Bedbugs." (Part 1 terrorized us with the statistic that bed bug complaints in Brooklyn have increased by 1,900 percent since 2004.)
Bed bug expert Richard Cooper is quoted as calling for intervention on the national level.
When enough politicians get infestations in their own houses, this just might happen.
