Audio Walking Tours of Coney Island -- Free

Now here's an idea for your stay-cation:

The Coney Island History Project has come out with their first-ever Audio Walking Tours of Coney Island. Their goals is to "make the People's Playground accessible to visitors and armchair travelers 365 days a year," and provide perspective on this world-famous neighborhood on the cusp of redevelopment.

You can download the tours (audio or video podcasts and files) for free from here.

Highlights include the 1920 Wonder Wheel and 1927 Cyclone Roller Coaster; the 1939 Parachute Jump ("Brooklyn's Eiffel Tower"); the 1924 Childs Restaurant building on the Boardwalk; the Grasshorn Building (Coney's oldest, circa 1888); the 1925 Shore Theatre; Ruby's Bar and more.

The Coney Island History Project is a not-for-profit that aims to increase awareness of Coney Island's legendary past and to encourage appreciation of the Coney Island today.
