Inside the Mysterious World of Trader Joe's

 Fortune spent two months digging inside the mysterious world of Trader Joe's (whose management is said to be "obsessively secretive"). Fortune's Beth Kowitt spoke with former executives, competitors, industry analysts, and suppliers, most of whom asked not to be named.

Few customers realize the chain is now owned by Germany's ultra-private Albrecht family, says Kowitt. (The original Joe, now 80, opened the first Trader Joe's 43 years ago in Pasadena.)
