A live music performance by Jimmy McMillan of The Rent Is Too Damn High Party is presented by Scenic at Europa on Thursday, December 16 at 7:30 p.m.

UPDATE: A commenter points out that Mr. McMillan has made a series of offensive anti-Semitic remarks. See comments below.

If you can't make the party, why not buy the Jimmy McMillan action hero doll from Herobuilders?

Only $39.95 -- or, for $10 more, you can get the SPEAKING  version of the Jimmy McMillan action hero doll. Click here to hear what he says.

  1. Perhaps you're unaware of Mr. McMillan's rather anti-Semitic past, with rather specific rants against Jews?

There's lots more, but Gatemouth provides plenty of outside third party links. Even the NY Times noted his anti-Semitic. Sure, it seems like a funny event, but I'd wish you wouldn't promote McMillan. Having read the blog for so long, I'm certain his words and acts are repugnant to you and that you were perhaps unaware of this.

  2. hahaha, calm down a little. That was so long ago. If that is the worst thing to come out of this vietnam vet, ex-postal worker, ex-stripper's mouth then he is still my fucking hero.

  3. Obviously he's a bit, shall we say, off. I believe this reference is tongue-in-cheek.

  4. 2nd anonymous at 131pm--have you read the things he's said? Would you think the same about David Duke?
And I don't think this p;ost is tongue-in-cheek. If it was, it wouldn't have given all the contact info and ways to give this anti-Semite your money (and I don't think this blog would recommend doing so once his history is known).

  5. Actually, no, we weren't aware of his anti-Semitic remarks, though it's hard to believe anyone would take anything he says seriously. According to Wikipedia, he once climbed the Brooklyn Bridge and refused to come down. His opinion on gay marriage: "If you want to marry a shoe, I'll marry you." His stance on the environment: he will bulldoze all the mountains in upstate New York. He can't breathe if he's not wearing his black gloves. Can't get too worked up about anything he says.

  6. MK,

Frankly, I'm really surprised by your response. He makes, and acknowledges making, anti-Semitic remarks and you take it casually as if it is no big deal, or somehow amusing? If he wore KKK outfit, and spewed filth about African Americans, or came out against gays with similar filth, would you react the same way? You want to write about him--fine, that is your right. But to actively promote him and seek to put money in his pocket from your promotion, when told of his clear statements against Jews, and to equate hatred of Jews with marrying a shoe, is (to my eyes and ears) inappropriate. You are a person of good will, that much is clear from reading this blog, and do much good, but perhaps upon further reflection you'll change your opinion.

    Sincerely,

    A loyal and dedicated reader

  7. You make very good points. We didn't give him much thought because he seems like such a flake. The post was meant more in the line of, "oh, look what this weird guy who ran for office is doing now," rather than, "everybody run out and support him." We certainly don't want to promote a bigot. The bit about the action-figure doll was meant to support this point of view. We're going to update the post to point out your comments and hope everyone reads them. Thanks for your persistence in making your point.

  8. How about remove all the links that allow this guy to make money off your reference to him, as well as the ticket info? Respectfully, while I appreciate your response, the post remains offensive because he should not profit from his clearly offensive and anti-Semitic statements.

His views are well known, from Albany's Times Union,
http://blog.timesunion.com/capitol/archives/33242/jimmy-mcmillan-maybe-not-so-huggable-if-youre-jewish/, and others. I wish the opinion of cute and fuzzy would end, but I'm only person and I would have thought this cretin would've faded out already.

This is otherwise such a great blog.

  9. I'm disappointed that you kept the links alive. This must be really important to you to make such a significant stance in support of McMillan despite his clear anti-Semitic remarks. I'm truly shocked and surprised, and disappointed.

  10. Hey, we killed his links on Dec. 11. (Except for two links to the doll, which he doesn't make any money from. The dolls are not for admirers, they are for collectors of the bizarre.)

  11. If Hitler himself came back to tell us that the Rent Is Too Damn High, I would still subscribe to his newsletter - because it's the damn truth!
