Brooklyn Heights Cinema Gets Reprieve?

Landlord hits pause button on presenting plan to CB2.
Fresh popcorn with real butter for a while longer?

According to the Brooklyn Heights Blog, the landlord of 70 Henry Street has withdrawn his proposal for a new structure there to Community Board 2’s Landmarks Committee. The building currently is the home of the beloved Brooklyn Heights Cinema.

According to the Brooklyn Eagle, the plan is to demolish the existing movie theater building and construct a new five-story residential building, which will ultimately require approval by the Landmarks Preservation Commission.

According to the cinema's Facebook page, if it has to move, the business hopes to relocate at a location near by its home in Brooklyn Heights. In the meantime, a roster of special events is in the works, including Silent Films with live music by Liz Magnes on Sunday, February 26th at 7 .pm. More here.
