By popular request, we're linking to our research from the past three years regarding watching the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks from Brooklyn.
Summary: Posters tell us that East River State Park in Williamsburg offers one of the best views from our borough, definitely better than the view from DUMBO or Brooklyn Heights.
The park offers a straight across view, unobstructed by tall buildings or bridges. Here's what you'll see (that's the Empire State Building right of center).
Here are two comments after last year's fireworks:
"Wow, thanks for this! My husband, daughter, and I went to East River State Park at your suggestion. Terrific view! The fireworks looked so beautiful emerging from behind the skyline. We never would have chosen this site on our own... didn't even know about this lovely park!"
And another:
"Agree. Went to DUMBO last year, think the Williamsburg view is better."
Note: If you take the East River Ferry to Williamsburg: the ferry will operate on a normal weekday schedule starting at 9:00 a.m. and ending at 8:45 p.m. That means you won't be able to take the ferry home, so research subway options before you go.
Here the link to photos we took from other viewing options in Brooklyn.
UPDATE : Some posters have reported that the state closed East River Park one minute before the fireworks started.

Fireworks -- Top of the Edge works too!
ReplyDeleteEast River State Park closes at 9:00pm. Gates are locked and patrons must leave.
ReplyDeleteThe gates are locked at 9:00pm. That means that you will have to start exiting the park at 8:00pm.
ReplyDeleteSave yourself a trip. Don't go to East River State Park.

ReplyDeleteEast River State Park will be closed at 9:00PM. The fireworks are on the Hudson River and are not visible from this park site. Please do not waste your time and disapoint your family and freinds! Try back next year if Macy's puts the barges back in the East River.
Just got back from there - the park closed at 9PM so it was pointless even entering. Ended up going to the spot right next to the ferry, which was not a bad view in general but pretty lame for photography since the angle completely missed the best part of the Manhattan skyline. But definitely a great location to come and enjoy with a family.
ReplyDeleteWent there last year, great view from the park. This year watched from the area next to the ferry. Don't know why they closed the only park you can see the fireworks from in Brooklyn this year!!!
ReplyDeleteThere were thousands of people in the park. They closed it when it became full. And I mean full. Had a great time!
