SUV Plows Into Brooklyn Heights Building; DOB Complaint of Building Shaking

A man backing up a green Ford SUV at a high rate of speed lost control of his car and plowed into the Henry Street side of 98 Remsen Street in Brooklyn Heights at 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning, collapsing scaffolding surrounding the building and partially caving in a brick wall.

Police told McBrooklyn that the driver was attempting to shift gears and accidentally hit the accelerator. The driver declined to comment.

No one was hurt in the crash but Henry Street (near Hunts Lane) was blocked off by NYPD and FDNY and the building temporarily evacuated.

A crowd of emergency workers gathered as the Office of Emergency Management arrived  to inspect the scaffolding and wall.

Workers said the damage did not appear to be destabilizing -- though a complaint was filed Saturday with the Department of Buildings states that the building is shaking and stability is affected.

The street remained closed Saturday afternoon as workers shored up the scaffolding.
