Who Won Thursday's Vice-Presidential Debate?

The results of the McBrooklyn poll are in, and the viewers have decided:

In last Thursday's Vice-Presidential debate, 85 percent of respondents said that Joe Biden won; 8 percent voted for Paul Ryan; 2 percent couldn't decide; and 4 percent said both debaters did terribly.

Report: Rolling Stones NOT Definitely Coming to Barclays Center, Brooklyn

UPDATE: Rolling Stones NOT coming to Barclay's Center, the opposite of the report below! See update here.

*   *   *

Showbiz411 reports that the Rolling Stones will indeed play 50th anniversary concerts; that tickets will go on sale this weekend -– maybe as soon as Friday; that Ticketmaster will handle the sales; and that all hell is going to break loose.

The blog says that confirmed dates are November 26 and 27 at the O2 Arena in London. December 15th and 16th are set for the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The dates for the Barclays Center in Brooklyn are coming, but not agreed to yet.

Showbiz411 says the delay is all about "money, money, money." Richard Branson is said to be putting up $25 million to make all this happen with concert promoter Paul Dainty.

Safest Neighborhood in Brooklyn? Don't Think So.

Here's a map of Brooklyn neighborhood crime rates according to Neighborhood Scout. The dark blue areas are supposedly the safest, while the lightest blues have the worst crime rates.

According to the website (which seems to be real estate oriented) Kent Ave / 3rd Street is the safest neighborhood in Brooklyn, followed by:

- Gowanus Expy / 7th Ave
- Bergen Beach
- Bedford Ave / Avenue L
- Flushing Ave / Bedford
- Williamsburg St / Wythe
- 80th St / 12th Ave
- 23rd St / Avenue J
- Ross St / Bedford Ave
- 33rd St / Avenue R

Something about the first listing (Kent Avenue and 3rd Street) didn't sound quite right, so we looked up this so-called safest neighborhood in Brooklyn on Google Maps. This is what we found:

This looks just like the kind of neighborhood our mother warned us about!

The second-safest -- Gowanus Expressway / 7th Avenue -- is just highway, so we looked nearby at 7th Avenue and 68th Street:

Looks pretty safe . . .

The third safest, Bergen Beach looks really safe!

So does Bedford and Avenue L.

Flushing and Bedford: It's a Orthodox Jewish neighborhood and looks pretty safe. Williamsburg Street at Wythe is a similar Orthodox neighborhood.

80th Street near 12th Avenue; 23rd Street at Avenue J; Ross Street at Bedford Avenue; and 33rd Street at Avenue R are all lovely, suburban-looking neighborhoods.

So while we can't speak for the accuracy of these neighborhood statistics, we'd venture that most of these so-called safe neighborhoods are really safe -- except for the first, "safest neighborhood in Brooklyn."

Time Traveling Walt Whitman Visiting Coney Island this Weekend

'Walt Whitman' will be reciting this Sunday at Coney Island.
Parachute: the Coney Island Performance Festival takes place this weekend, October 13 and 14.

The event features two evenings of a literary stage and two afternoons of free poetry workshops. The main stage is located in the NY Aquarium's Alien Stingers Exhibit, in front of the Jellyfish.

There will also be site-specific poetry happenings around Coney Island. These include poet, actor and Whitmaniac John Farrell reciting Walt Whitman at the Coney Island History Project on Sunday, October 14, from 2-4 p.m. Admission is free of charge.

Mr. Farrell's one-man show "Walt Whitman: Time Traveler" premiered last year in Ireland. In New York, he has performed as Whitman at the Brooklyn Book Festival, NYC Poetry Festival and Dixon Place.

"Walt Whitman, an American poetry icon, was a frequent visitor of Coney's shores in the 1800's," says Parachute Festival director Amanda Deutch, who notes that Whitman ran along Coney Island's coast shouting Homer and Shakespeare to the Atlantic surf.

Giant Flashing Video Billboard for Barclays Center Parked in Brooklyn Bridge Park

How nice! A giant, flashing video billboard for Barclays Center has been installed in Brooklyn Bridge Park!

Such a great use of a waterfront park! Because we all looove Barclays. And we looove American Express which will allow us to go to Barclays!

If you go around the back the giant, flashing video billboard you can make a "dance" or "rock out video" and get a chance to win tickets from American Express to Barclays! Which we looove.

Helloooo Brooklyn!
