It crawled up from the cove at Empire Fulton Ferry State Park in Dumbo. Looks to be female -- it's protecting batches of eggs secreted among the rocks. Didn't want to get too close ...
Wow, this has been some summer for weird sea creatures!
Actually, this is a work called "Creature" by Michael Mutt. Creature and other creepy-crawlies will be inhabiting the park until September 7, as part of BWAC's (Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition) 26th Outdoor Sculpture Show, "Relative Environment."

I think the Montauk monstery is a kappa. Have a look at "Kap the Kappa," a children's book I read in the 60's, and remember like it was yesterday. They carry water on their heads, and when the water falls out they weaken and die (otherwise they could survive perfectly well on dry land).
