Saturday was a great day to fly a kite, and that's what folks did at the first ever Brooklyn Kite Festival at Pier 1 in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Volunteers from the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy offered free materials and kite-making instructions to young and old.
It was a sunny day and there was a bit of a breeze so the kites went right up (at least when we were there).
Some kites were simple little paper affairs, while others were quite elaborate.
Kids were proud of themselves for keeping their kites up in the sky.
Partners included Brooklyn Bridge Park, the Park Conservancy, Park Slope Parents, and Little Things Toy Store.
