This is really a tempest in a teapot. In the coming years, there will be absolutely no need for libraries as a repository for books, except possibly for researchers who require access to rare manuscripts. And even these can and will be scanned which will make them available for all to read. Anyone who has Internet access has access to more books than are available in a typical library. Our city's focus should be on making Internet access available to all along with e-books that they can use to "borrow" books from the library system. The space that is currently used for shelving can be turned into community rooms or quiet space for those who need it.
