Full Day of Fun at Brooklyn Friends School Winter Festival 2013

The huge Brooklyn Friends School Winter Festival took over the Pearl Street school building in Downtown Brooklyn on Saturday. We always recommend this event because it provides a full day of fun, food and shopping for all ages.

The Artisanal Crafts section downstairs was packed with tables filled with handmade jewelry, pottery, T-shirts, baked goods and all sorts of clever crafted items.

We picked up a couple of nice holiday gifts here.

There was a floor of carnival rides and games (that's one of several bouncy houses, above), another floor with a book sale, plus attractions like a middle school beauty salon and mini-skateboarding.

Entertainment included a magic show and a reptile demonstration, among other performances.

All the funds go for the Horizons Program at BFS, a good cause.

The Potty Toss is harder than it looks, that's all we're going to say...

Missing: 86-Year-Old Man Driving Black Pathfinder Around Brooklyn Monday Night

Word came in around 11 p.m. that a missing 86-year-old man is driving around Brooklyn in a black Pathfinder with New York plates ending in 687.

Pathfinder

The man is a white male, 5'6" and 140 lbs., and is wearing blue jeans, a black vest and a dark hat.

He was last seen on 74th Street. 

UPDATE: He was last seen driving on the Gowanus at Metropolitan Avenue.

A Level 1 Mobilization has been called. If you see him call 9-1-1.

Great Crafts, Delicious Treats at P.S. 8 Holiday Craft Fair, Brooklyn Heights

A great day of crafting, eating treats, smiling and recycling was held Saturday at the P.S. 8 Holiday Crafts Fair in Brooklyn Heights.

P.S. 8 parents and local companies manned the tables and students created their own objets d'art at the PS 8 Craft Lab.

Breakfast with Santa at First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn Heights

Santa's coming to Brooklyn Heights and he's making pancakes.

Children of all ages are invited to a pancake breakfast, Christmas music, crafts and a picture with Santa on Saturday 12/14/13 - two seatings -- 9:30AM and 10:30AM at First Presbyterian Church, 124 Henry Street (at Clark Street).

First Annual Sixpoint Holiday Concert and Beer Festival

Brooklyn's Sixpoint Brewery with with the Anything Anything Radio Show is throwing its First Annual Sixpoint Holiday Concert and Beer Festival to raise money for The Humane Society of New York.

It will take place at subculture (45 Bleecker Street at the corner of Lafayette) on December 14 from 3pm - 7pm and feature 2.5 hours of live music and unlimited samples of 12 different varieties of Sixpoint beer.

The event will feature an R&B/boogie-woogie rock group along with indie rock and jazz.

NYC's Taxi and Limousine Commission says it wants you to suggest where to put more Boro Taxi stands.

Boro Taxis are the new lime green taxis with the clunky T logo that are allowed to pick up fares in all of the boroughs except Manhattan below East 96th Street /West 110th Street, or airports.

Carroll Gardens Public Library Benefit -- Storytelling Superstars with Miss Kris

 Shakespeare's Sister Company is offering free classes for ages three through five in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

Shakespeare's Sister says: "Storytelling Superstars is a magical class for aspiring actors which teaches the building blocks of storytelling. Children act out fairy tales, play theater games, build friendships, confidence, leadership and sense of self."

Carroll Park Christmas Tree Lighting Postponed Until Dec. 13 in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn

Due to the inclement weather, the Carroll Park tree lighting party scheduled for tonight in Cobble Hill has been postponed to next Friday evening, December 13.

On December 13 at 6 p.m., join Court Street Merchants Association, Friends of Carroll Park, elected officials, friends, neighbors, and maybe even a fat man in a red suit when they flip the switch on the holiday decor.

Countdown and carols will happen at the Louis Valentino, Jr. Ballfield, followed immediately by food and fun in the Robert Acito Park House.

This will also be the final collection in their City Harvest holiday food drive, so please grab a can or box of non-perishable food en route.
