Person Rescued from Red Hook Water Near Quadrozzi's Cement Plant

An unfortunate person fell into the water at 699 Columbia Street on the Red Hook Waterfront on this freezing evening.

No word yet on the condition of the victim nor what hospital he or she was eventually transported to.

That is the location of the Gowanus Bay Terminal (GBX), which includes the large grain terminal and the Cement Silo Vessel.

According to the Waterfront Alliance, GBX is controlled by local cement businessman John Quadrozzi, Jr.

It's not far from the Brooklyn IKEA.

Snow, Sleet, Freezing Rain in Brooklyn on Monday

The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Storm Warning for NYC on Monday, with snow, ice and rain predicted. Accumulation will be 2 to 5 inches of snow topped by a slick layer of ice.

The snow will fall all Sunday night (early Monday a.m.) but will turn into icy rain around rush hour. A "wintry mix" will start back up Monday afternoon. It may turn back into snow during the evening.

Watch out for icy driving during the evening rush hour.

Schools: Schools will be open Monday, but field trips are cancelled.

Parking: Alternate Side Parking rules are suspended Monday for snow removal. Parking meters remain in effect throughout the city.

Refuse & Recycling Collection: Refuse and recycling collections will be suspended Monday to allow for snow clearing operations.

NY1's Joel Siegel tweets, "Upper East Siders: did you hear cheering at Gracie Mansion? " He's referring to Mayor de Blasio's famous fondness for the New England Patriots.

Peter Spencer tweets that sources say that the mayor is planning a parade for the New England Patriots in NYC.

The mayor has not publically confirmed this.

Sheldon Silver's Ties to Brooklyn

Indicted New York State politician Sheldon Silver has a number of ties to Brooklyn, news sources say.

The contacts go back more than a decade -- Silver graduated ffrom Brooklyn Law School. More recently, Silver's brother, Dr. Joseph Silver, the orthopedic chief at Brooklyn's Methodist Hospital, was allegedly steering patients to him, according to the Daily News. After his brother died in 2003,Silver allegedly found another doctor to o this task.

OHEL, the Orthodox Jewish social services organization headquartered in Brooklyn, is also closely tied to him, according to the News.

OHEL bought an upstate camp  a few miles from Silver's vacation house, and named it after Silver's brother. The advisory board chair for the camp is Martin Kleinman, whose home health-care company, Americare, was fined $15 million for bogus Medicaid claims.

And continuing probes link Silver to judges who had roles in Atlantic Yards, according to Atlantic Yards Report, which quotes reports in the News and Post.

Brooklyn's Lentol Withdraws Bid for Assembly Speaker Spot

Brooklynites just lost their chance to have one of their own in the powerful position of NYS Assembly speaker.

Brooklyn Assemblymember Joseph Lentol suddenly withdrew from the race on Thursday, the Brooklyn Eagle reports. Lentol cited the need for a united front in Albany in the wake of the scandal surrounding Speaker Sheldon Silver.

This gives Bronx Assemblyman Carl Heastie’s bid a boost, the Daily News says.

NYC: Up to 2 Inches of Snow, Freezing Winds Friday; Maybe 6 Inches Monday

New York City's Office of Emergency Management has issued a Weather Advisory for tonight and Friday (January 30).

Light snow is expected to begin tonight and continue until early Friday morning. An accumulation of 1-2 inches of snow is expected, with little to no ice formation, but roads could be slippery for Friday's commute.

Decreasing temperatures and increased winds are expected Friday afternoon, resulting in a nighttime low of 12 to 13 degrees, with wind chills of -5 to -10 possible. The strongest winds are expected Friday night into Saturday morning, with sustained winds of 20-30 mph, and gusts of up to 40 mph. Winds diminish Saturday afternoon, but temperatures will remain dangerously frigid.

And from the National Weather Service: LOW PRESSURE WILL TRACK SOUTH OF LONG ISLAND SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY. ALTHOUGH THE EXACT TRACK AND TIMING OF THE SYSTEM ARE STILL UNCERTAIN...THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR 6 INCHES OR MORE OF SNOW ACROSS THE ENTIRE TRI-STATE AREA.

The NYC Department of Sanitation has issued a snow alert beginning Thursday at 7 PM and will have more than 500 salt spreaders out across the five boroughs to treat arterial highways, bus routes, school streets, hilly roads, etc. In addition, DSNY will have plows on other equipment in case of any plowing needs (more than 2 inches of accumulation).

The Department of Transportation will deploy anti-icing units to each of the East River bridges and is pre-treating pedestrian overpasses and step streets.

Alternate Side Parking rules are suspended through Saturday, January 31. Parking meters remain in effect throughout the city.

New Yorkers are advised to check on their neighbors, friends, and relatives - especially the elderly and those with disabilities.

You Can Adopt One of the 74 Rabbits Seized by Cops in Gowanus

Owner Refused to Bring Them in During Blizzard of 2015

Cops were called to a Gowanus property literally hopping with rabbits after someone noticed them jumping around in the snow drifts.

According to the Daily News,  the cops seized the rabbits — all 74 of them — and brought them to the city’s Animal Care and Control office where they were being treated Tuesday.

A commenter claimed the rabbits "were kept by the 'owner' in a dirty alley filed with garbage with little shelter."

Another commenter supplies a link to the shelter (petharbor.com) where the rabbits were brought. Turns out there are hundreds of shelter bunnies. So if anyone needs a rabbit, check this out.

Close to 400 Customers Still Without Power in Brooklyn

 Scattered power outages across Brooklyn have lingered into Thursday.

 362 locations in the borough were without power early Thursday morning, according to Con Edison's Storm Center.

Many are related to the non-Blizzzard of 2015, which left close to a foot of snow -- and much corrosive ssalt -- on many Brooklyn streets.
