Folks were pretty psyched to hear Brooklyn Bridge Park details from its architect, Michael van Valkenburgh Tuesday night at the Brooklyn Height's Association's 100th Annual Meeting. The BHA has helped "move the park forward" for about 20 years.
For example, 1,000 benches are being constructed from the remains of the old Cold Storage Warehouse on Pier 1 that is now slowly being dismantled.
Another interesting factoid: all the trees that will be planted – including many that already have been -- are raised to prevent salt-water damage to their root systems in case of storms or climate change.
For more details see the Brooklyn Eagle and also the Brooklyn Heights Blog.
