Parking Solution for Over-the-Top Christmas Lights in Dyker Heights, Brooklyn?

It's holiday season again in Dyker Heights. The annual Christmas display, which gets more elaborate every year, is said to draw more than 100,000 visitors to Brooklyn from across the country.

This charming event draws so many tour buses, however, that police recently revoked parking privileges for locals along 86th Street between 11th and 13th Avenues from 5 p.m. to midnight. This drew quite an outcry from residents.

Now, according to Bensonhurst Bean, NYPD Brooklyn South Chief Steven Powers has decided to revise the controversial plan, and reserve only three bus lengths along 86th Street for buses.

A reasonable solution?

How to get to Dyker Heights and tips for your trip.
The creativity is amazing.

Ground zero for Christmas lights in Dyker Heights is between 81st and 83rd streets and 11 and 13 avenues. Commenters on Yelp say try to walk it if you can for the best experience.

NYC Harnesses Tourists Peddling Citi Bikes to Power the New Years Eve Ball

Photo: MK Metz
NYC has set up a Citi Bike Pedal Power Station at 7th Avenue and 42nd Street with six Citi Bike bicycles for tourists to ride to generate energy to light the New Years Eve ball.

The energy generated is being collected and stored in batteries until the big celebration.

(NYC residents are also invited to power up the New Years ball, but face it: We gotta work.)

The Citi Bike Pedal Power Station is located on the Southeast corner of 7th Avenue and 42nd Street. It was open over the weekend, and will be open again today from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Citi Bike brand ambassadors will be on-site taking photos of participating riders. Participants will receive a free Citi Bike day pass and they will be sent a digital photo of them helping power the Ball that they can save and share. More here.
