Through confessional story-telling and a "raw and sensual mash-up of music, dance and film," Mersiha Mesihovic's BOSNIANBORN examines the diasporic experience.
This fall, BRIClab features artists and projects mining ideas of migration, immigration and home.
Mesihovic is a Bosnian/Swedish dance artist & the founder/artistic director of CIRCUITDEBRIS. This work was created in collaboration with filmmaker Aitor Mendilibar and composer Visnja Krzic.
During her BRIClab residence Mesihovic will offer FREE morning dance classes in her own movement methodology: EMBODIMENT.

3rd prize in each category will a cash prize of $50, and tickets to participating Coney Island Amusements.
The Best Dressed person in each category will receive a special mystery prize.

Tonight is Night 2 of the Fulton Mall Remix, an "extravaganza of music, art, dance and fashion celebrating Fulton Mall’s rich cultural history and Downtown Brooklyn’s legacy as an urban music and fashion mecca, at Albee Square."
Wednesday’s line-up includes Kwikstep (a.k.a. DJ KS 360), Full Circle and Cut Master DC.
Nighttime performances take place every Thursday and Friday from 7:30 pm to 10 pm during the month of June.

"On the 150th Anniversary of the publication of Lewis Carroll’s novel, "Dark Wonderland" is a four-week showcase for New York’s most visionary performing artists to hold a modern-day looking glass to our city and the world beyond, through spectacular presentations in theater, dance, and music. The series is held at Green-Wood Cemetery, a sprawling and historic city of immense power, and curated and produced by MAPP International Productions, a nonprofit producer of major performing arts projects that spark social change."
In case you haven't heard, Brooklyn Councilmember Laurie Cumbo is the 5th Anniversary Dance Champion for The Stars of New York Dance -- and when you see this video you'll know why.
She and her dance partner Jamel Gaines of Creative Outlet Dance Theatre of Brooklyn sizzled to the sounds of JLo.
Because of her participation, Creative Outlet won $5,000 to provide five or more children from low-income communities in New York City with a free or subsidized year of high-quality dance education and training.
The event, held at LIU in Brooklyn, honored the Rev. Al Sharpton this year.

Music from the Oaxaca region of Mexico rang out over Cadman Plaza Park in Downtown Brooklyn on Sunday, for La Guelaguetza Festival New York sponsored by the Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Nueva York (BFMNY).
Dancers thrilled the crowd with performances reflecting the traditions of the different Oaxacan states.
The music was uplifting, the clothing gorgeous and the mood generous. Love, sharing, and pride in the crafts of the area were themes.

The 39th Annual Atlantic Antic: The street festival to end all street festivals runs along Atlantic Avenue from Hicks Street to 4th Avenue. This is the real deal -- food, beer brewed just for the occasion, art, music, shopping, festivities, and fun. And this year, finally, BP Marty Markowitz will crowned King of Brooklyn.
The DUMBO Arts Festival continues on Sunday. Highly recommended! While the Festival officially ends at 6 p.m., BattleFest runs from 6 - 9 p.m.
Fasten your corsage and put on your dancing shoes. On Saturday, May 11 at 7pm, Red Hook, Brooklyn is having a prom. Come to South Brooklyn Community High School at 173 Conover Street, walk up to the gym and celebrate the neighborhood.
The event, voluntarily produced by Red Hook's own home/made (a restaurant and catering company), features delicious food, punch (spiked, just like we remember), sweet tunes by DJ Body Rock spinning 80's jams and requests, dance lessons from Cora Dance pros, a photo booth, the knighting of Prom King and Queen-- nominations are local celebrities, and many more surprises.
The Red Hook Prom is the annual gala benefiting Cora Dance. All the proceeds of the evening go to support their 7 days a week of pay-what-you-can dance classes for ages 4 to 94+, as well as supporting the development of Red Hook's first studio theater.

What did you do on Mother's Day? Supporters of Milagros Day Worldwide celebrated women who have overcome domestic violence with a walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and a concert at Cadman Plaza Park in Downtown Brooklyn.
Milagros Day provides support to survivors of domestic violence and those who grew up in abusive households. Assemblyman Felix Ortiz, chair of the Assembly's Mental Health, Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities Committee spoke about the importance of bringing attention to the issue.
The entertainment was first-rate -- Above: Pablito Drum. TV personality Farah Zulaikha was master of ceremonies.

Milagros Day's programs include transformation courses and the promotion of entrepreneurship among victims of abuse.
While the professional dancers were inside at BAM's (Brooklyn Academy of Music) DanceAfrica in Fort Greene, the streets outside were packed with everyday dancers this weekend. Traditional music played, the sun was hot as hell and spirits were high.
DanceAfrica took place all Memorial Day weekend, with dance, music, film, and a huge outdoor bazaar of African crafts, food, and clothing.
What the heck was going on at Prospect Park Zoo this past Saturday?
Turns out there was some hot samba-ing happening -- called "Samba with the Sea Lions" -- featuring Samba New York.
The crowd learned to samba along with the Zoo’s sea lions, Beebe and Stella. The samba party kicked off Jazz: Brooklyn’s Beat, a month-long celebration of world-class jazz at the cultural institutions in the Heart of Brooklyn.

Triskelion Arts in Williamsburg presents the premiere of Mirrors Tilted Wildly, a two-night engagement on November 20 and 21.
Mirrors Tilted Wildly is a modern showcase of nine performances curated by Marisa Arriaga. This shared evening includes works by artists Sheri Wells, Nancy Hughes, Meredith Blouin of dance project Madame Spaghetti Arms, Ching-I Chang, Zita Nyarady, along with Sarah Beth Oppenheim and Nora Petroliunas, creative masterminds of Pocket Engine.
Choreographer Carrie Ahern and dancers investigate "boundaries" with the audience in Sensate, a dance performed throughout 4,000sq ft of the Brooklyn Lyceum, November 18-22.
In Sensate, the audience is free to enter and exit the performance spaces anytime between three designated hours, viewing the dance from anywhere they choose in the space. More at Brooklyn Lyceum
