Something Big Coming In at One Pierrepont Plaza, Brooklyn Heights?

For years the windows were blocked and no one really thought about what was inside the huge ground floor space at Forest City Ratner's One Pierrepont Plaza in Brooklyn Heights (bounded by Pierrepont Street, Clinton Street and Cadman Plaza West).

Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and the U.S. Attorney for Eastern District are major tenants in the the 19-story, 650,000-square-foot building, and Independence Community Bank (now called Sovereign) has/had some space as well.

Now the windows on the Clinton Street side are unobstructed and WOW what a space! Workers are preparing it for -- something.

Rumors are flying around as to what might be coming in. One (totally uncorroborated) has a media company looking at the spot.

UPDATE: Well, we found out what it's going to be and it's not a pretty picture. Here.

The Brooklyn Eagle.

For real?

They are in a large space on Henry Street in the north Heights. Wouldn't make sense to move a couple of blocks.

If the past is any guide: bank, phone company, dumb nat'l retailer. FCR only gets tenants because of handshake deal between CEO's/politicians and then the word comes down from above: we're moving to Brooklyn.

I'm not that familiar with the Brooklyn Eagle and their space needs, and since they're local, rent maybe too steep.

However, the most exciting thing to happen--and thus most likely not too happen--would be if NBC's planned local local NYC cable news station moved here.

Did you hear it hear first?

I hear it's going to be a new kind of luxury "Dog House" for all the recent politicans who are lying down with people other than their spouses.....

9:36 From what we hear here they're probably laying down with them too. heh heh hehhh wink wink

It never occurred to me until seeing the pictures that that would be a good space for the alleged Brooklyn Apple store. How much sq ft would you guess is in there?

...NBC does like to have ground floors.....and this would make a nice gateway for them....and this would defintitely say "local" (well more local than being in Manhattan)...And they are a big company (which FCR likes)...and Marty is a showman....we'll all just have stay tuned...and yes, you will have heard it here first!

I like it epc. we all know apple's been looking,(and we have been looking for them) and this would be a tenet sized slam dunk with private schools nearby and $$$$ and trains galore. and they'd get the "Brooklyn" edgy thing taken care of without venturing too far into the boro.

sorry 934/1018, dont think nbc has the cojones to go Kings county for anything, although it would be awesome!

My chips are on the apple.

Easy folks before our hopes get too far ahead of us----this place has kids written all over it. There are just too many in the nabe for this not be sucked up by a private gym thing or a semi-private school thing.IMHO

Would've been a big 21st century move for the Eagle though.

like most things, it will not really be that big mcbrooklyn.

gaudy yes, like a NETS store or some corporate b**lshit. Corpr. location and copr. moves are usually small.

And the Pope actually came to Brooklyn...

Better yet, instead of crown heights, the mayor decided the homeless shelter should go here instead.

I hear that to counter the challenger Squandron's Gristede's HQ, Martin Connor will cut the ribbon soon on this place, his new district walk in office soon.

Not even close-- it's a new concept called studio chef:

Otterness will have one third/ and busy chef will have one third and the last third will be stroller parking nap area.

you can take it froim there...

Good for a few Friday SH*ts and giggles, but most likely whatever arrives in this space wont matter much in any of our lives. Think about it...
