Verizon Fios Robot Chats With McBrooklyn

The word has been going around that many Brooklyn neighborhoods are being wired for super-fast Verizon Fios. But it's been nearly impossible to find out when each Brooklyn neighborhood will be wired.

So McBrooklyn entered a few Brooklyn addresses in Verizon's Fios availability checker: 60 Henry Street; 60 Montgomery Place; 60 Washington Street; 333 Adams Street; 6 MetroTech Center; 1 Pierrepont Plaza; 1000 Surf Ave.; 1000 Washington Ave.

In each case, we were told that Fios was not available. Finally, a box popped up offering us the opportunity for a "Live Chat." Our big chance to get the inside scoop about Brooklyn's Fios rollout! Here's the conversation we had with Verizon's "Sammy," with whom we formed a deep and immediate relationship:

You are now chatting with Sammy.

Sammy: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. How can I help you experience the cutting-edge technology of our High Speed Internet?

McBrooklyn: Just wondering when Fios is coming to Downtown Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights and Dumbo?

Sammy: I would be happy to explain.

Sammy: Our network is continually being expanded. If your number does not qualify for Verizon FiOS service, you will be directed to a form to be notified if FiOS becomes available in your area.

Sammy: We appreciate your interest in Verizon's FiOS service and you will be notified when it becomes available to you.

McBrooklyn: Just wondering what the time frame is. My friends and I are all typing in our addresses and no matter where we live in Brooklyn, we get "not available."

Sammy: Unfortunately, it is not possible to determine when the service will become available to a particular location.

McBrooklyn: Are there any neighborhoods in Brooklyn that have Fios already?

McBrooklyn: Hi, you still there?

Sammy: Let me share some information.

Sammy: I understand your concern and I really appreciate your decision to switch to Fios service, however I am unable to assist you with that information as it is out of my support boundaries however I would be happy to provide you a link to the customer service department.

Sammy: Contact us

McBrooklyn: Okay thanks.

Sammy: Is there anything else I can help you with?

McBrooklyn: No that's all thanks.

Sammy: Thank you for using Verizon's chat service. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
