Quite a Set of Choppers In DUMBO

These enormous teeth (four feet high) in Empire-Fulton Ferry Park, DUMBO, Brooklyn, are entitled "Global Gobblers," and they're by Steven Kroeger.

According to timesunion.com, the original installation contained a large, inflatable earth ball inside the jaws; the sculpture emerged in response to the abuse at Abu Ghraib prison.

The piece is part of BWAC's outdoor sculpture show.

Get Your Dresses Off the Hippie Truck In Front of Brooklyn Trader Joe's

What is drawing women to the graffiti-covered hippie truck parked in front of Trader Joe's? It's the lightweight, colorful all cotton dresses and tops made in India being sold off the truck.

The truck belongs to Wolff's Clothing (based in NYC and in Phoenicia, New York), and the proprietors say they'll be parked in front of the Brooklyn Trader Joe's every day unless it rains.

The dresses are priced $20 and up; blouses are $10 and up.

Fire in Downtown Brooklyn Movie Theater

Brooklyn Eagle: Moviegoers poured out of the UA Court Street Cinema in Downtown Brooklyn this afternoon, coughing and wheezing after escaping a fire.

Ten people were injured due to smoke inhalation. Three of the injuries were deemed serious, according to the Brooklyn Eagle.

Anime On the Brooklyn Waterfront

Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) will be hosting a full afternoon of anime cartoons plus a fashion show of costumes (with prizes) this Saturday, August 8th, in Red Hook.

It's one of the special events that are part of BWAC's Summer Pier Show, which runs through August 16 (on weekends).
