What Happens To Buds When It Freezes?

Trees all over Brooklyn have little furry buds, like these. What happens to them when it freezes like it did today?

Hi McBrooklyn,
Mother Nature is actually so incredible that it made sure that buds on trees can survive very harsh winters.
Trees as well as flowers buds like daffodils and crocuses have a natural anti-freeze substance that protects them.
Cold is really ever a problem in the spring after a few warm days. If the weather turns cold again, then the leaves and flowers can be damaged.
