Is Manhattan Mike Moving into Brooklyn Dominic's Grinding Territory?

When it comes to itinerant knife grinders, there's only two: Mike Pallotta and his green truck, who plies his trade on the Upper West Side of Manhattan; and Dominic Del Re and his red truck, who has been sharpening knives in Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope for more than a generation.

So McBrooklyn was shocked to find this unfamiliar face peering out an unfamiliar (but very Manhattanish) green grinding truck, bell ringing, parked on Henry Street near Love Lane in Brooklyn Heights the other day. We swear the guy inside looked positively nervous. He looked even more nervous when we took his picture.

Hey Dominic! You letting Mike weasel in on your territory, or what?

No, they've been ruining knives in Cobble Hill for several years.

Cooks Companion on Atlantic Ave does a much better job sharpening.

We used the red truck guys several times and they always did a good job. Even scissors.

Why is he parked in the bike lane? Does his green truck run on pedal power?

I was just telling my wife about the green truck that came down our Midwood street to sharpen knifes and scissors when I was a kid in the '70s. And this truck looks pretty much like I remember the one in our neighborhood. Glad to see some of these guys are hanging on, regardless of whether or not they're in the bike lane!

I have used several people including cooks companion (which were by far the worst) to get my knives sharpened. I have found that the guy in the red truck does the best job.
