Will It Rain On the Cranberry Street Fair?

One of our favorite Brooklyn Heights' events, the little Cranberry Street Fair, is scheduled to take place this Saturday, Oct. 3 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the west end of Cranberry Street. Sadly, Weather Underground predicts rain. (There doesn't seem to be a rain date . . . ) We can't remember the fair ever being completely rained out, though we haven't been around for all of its 30+ years.

This is one of the sweetest of street fairs, with none of the commercial vendors that dominate the city's typical fairs. (Did we mention it's little? This is NOT the world's biggest street fair, the Atlantic Antic, which, by the way, takes place Sunday.)

There's lots of stuff for kids: face painting and tattoos, carnival games, beanbags and fishing for prizes. Neighbors sell used books and treasures, bakers sell cupcakes and other goodies. There's a flower sale, a Tarot card reader, a raffle, etc.

The Pet Parade takes place at noon; then the Manhattan Tribal Belly Dancers will whirl and give belly dancing lessons with live music by Luis Manuel and Friends.

The money used by the Cranberry Street Association to maintain the plants and trees and beautify the neighborhood.

The video above shows folks learning how to belly dance last year.

And we understand the new "Poplar Street Flea Market & Family Fun Day" just two blocks away will take place at roughly the same time this year.
