Celebrating All Things Turkish at Brooklyn Borough Hall

Enormous spectacle at Brooklyn Borough Hall yesterday as BP Marty Markowitz and Turkish Consul General M. Levent Biligen presided over the annual Turkish Cultural Celebration.

The sound of drums and exotic music drew passersby from all over Brooklyn Heights to watch the stirring display put on by the Ottoman Military Band.

Turkish women on the steps of Borough Hall made that cool Middle Eastern trilling sound (ululation) in approval.

Ottoman military bands are probably the oldest variety of military marching band in the world, according to Wikipedia

Colorful folk dancing by the Ankara Greater Municipality Folk Dance Group and the New York Gypsy All-Stars.

It turns out that Brooklyn is the Turkish capital of America!
