Brooklyn House of Detention Could Get 'Super-sized'

The Brooklyn House of Detention could get super-sized, according to a breaking story in the Brooklyn Daily Eagle. Details include a proposed 165,000 "ground square feet expansion" for 720 inmate beds; and what could be two huge towers of residential or commercial space.

“Inmates and city personnel should not be able to view into the new residential and/ or commercial developments,” according to the guidelines, “nor should the occupants of the development parcels be able to view into the jail.”

More details: State Street could be transformed into an “urban plaza,” and Atlantic Avenue, Boerum Place; Smith Street would be ground-floor retail.
