Bhutanese Monks to Dance Out the Demons at Brooklyn Borough Hall

This looks like a not-to-be missed event -- Bhutanese ritual dancers will be appearing throughout the city this week to perform their "mesmerizing ancient Tantric Buddhist demon subjugation dance," called Cham.

Mommy Poppins told us about this unusual performance by dancers from this "secretive and rarely-seen culture." We missed the first performance Saturday at Fulton Ferry Landing so we were relieved to hear about this next Brooklyn performance, at Brooklyn Borough Hall on Wednesday, September 17 (that's tomorrow) at 12:30 p.m.

According to Wikipedia, Bhutan is one of the most isolated and least developed nations in the world: "Foreign influences and tourism are regulated by the government to preserve the nation's traditional culture, identity and the environment. Accordingly, in 2006 Business Week rated Bhutan the happiest country in Asia and the eighth happiest country in the world."

If you can't make Wednesday's performance at Borough Hall, visit Mommy Poppins for the schedule of performances across the city.
