Brooklyn's Dime Savings Bank Coming to Montague Street's 'Banker's Row'

The Bank of New York has moved out, and a new Dime Savings Bank is moving into this space at 188/189 Montague Street, Brooklyn Heights.

The work being carried out consists of "EXISTING BANK FACILITY WALLS REMOVED, NEW PARTITIONS BELOW CEILING HEIGHT." That's it.

In this one block of Montague Street (between Court and Clinton Streets), Brooklyn Heights has a Citibank, a Chase, Atlantic Liberty Savings, Flushing Bank, Sovereign Bank, Bank of America, HSBC, Commerce Bank, and now, a Dime. (There's a WaMu further down the street, and a walk-in Chase around the corner on Court. A Signature Bank is at the end of the block on Court.)

Citing the dearth of exciting restaurants and retail, commenters on the Brooklyn Heights Blog have come to this conclusion: "Montague Street is dead."
