One Thousand Still Without Power in NYC, Most of Them in Brooklyn

Following this weekend's blizzard, roughly 600 Brooklyn Con Edison customers were without power as of 5 p.m. Tuesday.

According to Con Ed's outage map, the dead spots were scattered across the borough, with Central Brooklyn registering slightly more outages.

Most notably, 115 customers (individual units or homes) were without power in Prospect Lefferts Gardens; 58 in the South Slope; 34 near Eastern Parkway; 67 in Bed-Stuy; 25 in Homecrest; 36 in Ridgewood; 17 near the Navy Yard, 22 in Boerum Hill and more.

About 300 customers lacked power in Upper Manhattan; 100 customers in Queens were also in the dark Tuesday evening.

Depending on the location, Con Ed says many of these repairs will be completed either by 11 p.m. tonight or early tomorrow morning.

More Than 850 Marine Park Customers Lose Power Thursday Night/ Friday Morning: Con Edison

More than 850 Marine Park customers lost power last night, Con Ed reports. The outage map shows that more than 70 buildings were hit.

The company expects to fix the problem for many by morning. Check with Con Ed for specifics.

Thousands in Brooklyn and Staten Island Lose Power Monday Night

 It was a hot and sticky night for more than 9,000 Con Edison customers in Brooklyn and Staten Island Monday night into Tuesday.

Staten Island was hardest hit, with approximately 19,000 customer outages in the Fresh Kills and Fox Hills neighborhoods losing power. 

By 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, the situation had improved on Staten Island, to just over 3,000 customers without power. For roughly 2,600 of them, Con Ed says the power will be restored by 5 a.m. Tuesday morning. The power prognosis for hundreds of other Staten Island customers is "pending."

Roughly 1,000 Con Ed customers were without power Brooklyn as of 1:30 a.m.. Con Ed says the power won't be back on in Brooklyn until 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Con Ed has asked affected neighborhoods to conserve energy while company crews work to repair equipment problems.  Con Edison has also reduced voltage in those areas as a precaution.

Early Tuesday morning, about 100 customers in Manhattan and the same number in the Bronx were without power.

Con Ed issued an alert at 9 p.m. Monday night. It said:

Due to the extremely hot temperatures, Con Edison wants to remind all customers citywide to conserve energy. Con Edison is asking customers to limit use of washers, dryers, air conditioners, and other energy-intensive equipment, and to turn off lights and televisions when not needed.

Power Out in Bushwick / E. Williamsburg Friday: More Than 1,400 Con Ed Customers in the Dark

 Con Edison reports that an entire section of Bushwick/ East Williamsburg in Brooklyn has lost power this morning.

Entire blocks of buildings in an area bounded by Flushing Avenue, Evergreen Avenue, Start Street and Irving Avenue have gone dark.

Con Ed will be working in the area all day, and expects to have most of them back on line by 5 p.m. today.

 No word yet on what caused the outage.

Streets involved include: George Street, Melrose Street, Jeffeerson Street, Troutman Street, Start Street, Suydam Street, Knickerbocker Avenue, Wilson Avenue, and Central Avenue.

1,374 Brooklyn Buildings Without Power Wednesday Night

Con Edison is responding to a major power outage in Brooklyn tonight. Most of them are in Red Hook, Zipcode 11231.

In one case, wires are down, leaving 789 customers/buildings without power on Coffey Street. Near the intersection of Van Brunt and King Street, 530 are without power due to burning wires.

Various local outages bring the total to 1,375 Con Ed customers/buildings without power in Brooklyn, as of 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night.

Close to 400 Customers Still Without Power in Brooklyn

 Scattered power outages across Brooklyn have lingered into Thursday.

 362 locations in the borough were without power early Thursday morning, according to Con Edison's Storm Center.

Many are related to the non-Blizzzard of 2015, which left close to a foot of snow -- and much corrosive ssalt -- on many Brooklyn streets.

On Year's Coldest Night, 1,200+ in Brooklyn Without Power

Power outages all over Brooklyn have knocked out electricity to more than 1,200 Con Edison customers.

Several hundred more customers have lost power in Queens, as well as a couple of dozen in other boroughs.

Unfortunately, this has happened on the coldest night in decades. Temperatures are falling into the single digits, and the Office of Emergency Management is warning residents to stay inside.

The NYC Dept of Health says if your home lacks heat, get to a warm, safe place immediately. Report loss of heat or hot water to 311.

Hundreds Without Power in Brooklyn Late Sunday: Smoking Manholes, Transformer 'Major Explosion' in Manhattan

 Reports of blown or smoking manholes are coming in to NYC emergency dispatchers from all around the city, and Con Ed reports that roughly 400 Brooklyn customers (that is likely more than 1,000 people) were without power as of 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The power outages are scattered all over Brooklyn, with 28 in Bay Ridge, 23 in Bath Beach, 25 near Kensington, 46 in Park Slope, 25 in Clinton Hill and many more. A smaller number were without power in Queens and Manhattan.

FDNY dispatchers received multiple reports Sunday late afternoon about exploding manholes, especially throughout Manhattan. 

A "major explosion" of a transformer was reported on the service road under the FDR Drive in Manhattan at 5:16 p.m. (It will affect the power at 7 Peter Cooper.) Con Ed is trying to get a crew together.

UPDATE: Emergency services asked Con Edison at 5:30 p.m. is anyone in effected area in on advanced life support.

UPDATE: Car needs to be removed from atop "active arcing" manhole in Manhattan.  UPDATE: Manhole steaming in front of 402 E. 83 St in Manhattan. Partial power outages from 402 - 428 E. 83rd. UPDATE: McDougal Street Manhole smoking at 6:05 p.m. UPDATE: Clyde Street in Queens, near 67 Street, report of a manhole fire at 6:12 p.m. UPDATE: Dispatch seems to be getting "smoking manhole," "manhole fire," or "arcing manhole" calls every 20 minutes. Power Out for Dozens of Bay Ridge Customers During Storm Hercules UPDATED

Cold night for a power outage!

Electric power for 38 Con Edison customers in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn (the number of actual people affected is likely around 100) was disrupted during winter storm Hercules late Thursday or early Friday morning.

The main outage location is 73rd Street near 3rd Avenue.

Con Ed says they hope to restore power by 10 a.m. Friday.

In the Bronx, 62 customers are without power.

Con Ed Locks Out 8,000 Workers, Brings Back Retired Supervisors

Consolidated Edison locked out 8,000 workers early Sunday after contract talks broke down.

Con Ed says it offered to extend negotiations for two more weeks, but the union refused, according to the NY Daily News

About 5,000 managers will step in.

Union leaders told the NY Times that those managers, who they said included retired supervisors, "might not have the numbers or the training to keep up if the hot weather and the increased demand for air-conditioning created major power failures."
