Borough President Eric Adams will join Mayor Bill de Blasio today to sign a bill that will require municipal agencies offering services to the public to provide lactation rooms where new mothers will have the ability to breastfeed unmolested.

The legislation was introduced at BP Adams’ request in the New York City Council.

The ceremony will take place in Brooklyn Borough Hall, where Adams established the building’s Lactation Lounge that opened last Mother’s Day.

Brooklyn Eagle Posts Massive LICH (Long Island College Hospital) Archive Online

The former emergency department at LICH in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn. Photo by MK Metz
Do you wish you knew more about the three-year saga during which the state of New York squeezed a Brooklyn hospital -- Long Island College Hospital (LICH) in Cobble Hill -- to death and sold it to a developer?

Do you wonder what Mayor Bill de Blasio had to do with the debacle? (He's being investigated now for his role in the closure.)

Did you know there were numerous lawsuits, marches (one involved more than a thousand people with coffins and a New Orleans-style funeral band over the Brooklyn Bridge), and protests in the rain, heat and snow?

And an elected official-led storming of the hospital?

Did you know SUNY hired security guards who went rogue and waved guns around the neo-natal ward?

And if you live anywhere between Red Hook and Williamsburg, did you know your life is at risk in a situation requiring an emergency room?

If you hunger to learn more, the Brooklyn Eagle has just published a massive archive of hundreds of detailed articles they published on the topic of LICH since the battle pitting residents against the state began. (Great source material if you're investigating any of the parties involved, too!)

LICH: Everything you want to know (almost) about the deal to close Long Island College Hospital

Demonstrators Shut Down Brooklyn Bridge, in March to Protest Police Violence

Photos by MK Metz
Hundreds of demonstrators marched over the Brooklyn Bridge during Tuesday's rush hour to protest the recent wave of police shootings of unarmed civilianss.

Dozens climbed onto the the Manhattan-bound roadway, leading cops to shut it down and make arrests.

According to reports,  two police officers were assaulted by protesters.

"Violence or threats of violence against the police are unacceptable and will absolutely not be tolerated," Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement late Tuesday, adding that the incidents are being investigated and perps will be prosecuted.

The woman shown above is one of dozens led off the Brooklyn Bridge roadway in handcuffs. NYPD opened the bridge again around 6 p.m., but demonstrations continued as the marchers headed along Flatbush towards Barclays Center.

A major sponsor was the Stop Mass Incarceration network.

UPDATE: The group says dozens of key organizers in NYC have been arrested, and are being held at:
NYPD 78 Precinct: 65 Sixth Avenue, Brooklyn.  718-636-4611
NYPD 7th Precinct: 19 1/2 Pitt Street, Manhattan. (212) 477-7311

SUNY Contempt Hearing on Hold; Negotiations Were Close...

LICH: MK Metz, McBrooklyn
The LICH - SUNY - de Blasio - Fortis rumor machine switched into overdrive in Brooklyn on Tuesday as state Supreme Court Justice Johnny Lee Baynes, who must be sorry he ever heard of SUNY or LICH, agreed to a 2-day adjournment of SUNY's contempt hearing because the 1199SEIU union said Bill de Blasio was getting involved.

As reported by the Brooklyn Eagle, it appears the six community groups suing SUNY for trying to illegally close Long Island College Hospital (LICH) are pissed that the hearing didn't roll out today as scheduled. The hearing will continue on Thursday, it is said....

A source told the Eagle that Mayor de Blasio “was not pushing for a full-service hospital” -- something de Blasio spokesman Phil Walzak immediately denied.

LICH attorney Jim Walden told the Eagle, “It appears to me that someone is trying to instill panic that the negotiations are about to fail. In point of fact, they were within a whisper of succeeding . . ."

Horrors! Brooklyn Weather About to Turn Worse: Snow, Freezing Rain, Sleet, Freezing Drizzle

Brooklyn Heights plowing. Photo: MK Metz, McBrooklyn
Think Monday was bad?

The National Weather Service predicts more winter weather for Brooklyn and the surrounding NYC area Tuesday night and Wednesday, and the description includes snow, freezing rain, sleet and freezing drizzle. (That probably uses up all the words for "awful" in NOAA's dictionary.)

In light on the ongoing attack of Old Man Winter, Mayor de Blasio has come up with a plan that includes using police surveillance cameras to see where the streets still need to be plowed. (Now. if we could only get the NSA involved, we could bring about world peace.)

Tuesday night: Snow, freezing rain, and sleet, mainly after midnight. Low around 29. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.

Wednesday: Rain, freezing rain, and sleet before 3pm, then a chance of rain and sleet between 3pm and 5pm, then a chance of rain, snow, and sleet after 5pm. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.

Wednesday night: A chance of freezing drizzle before 9pm.

The Weather service warns that icing will develop tonight (Monday night):

...ICING WILL DEVELOP TONIGHT...

MELTING SNOW WILL REFREEZE ON SIDE WALKS AND ROADS TONIGHT AS TEMPERATURES FALL THROUGH THE 20S AND TEENS.

De Blasio at Firehouse, Watches Seattle Seahawks Throw Denver Off Balcony

Photo: NYC.gov
Mayor Bill de Blasio watched part of the Super Bowl with firefighters from Fire Engine Company 220 in Park Slope on Sunday.

The Mayor said he was rooting for the Seahawks.

Good call.

In the infamous words of Brooklyn/ Staten Island Congressman Michael Grimm, the Seattle Seahawks broke the Denver Broncos "in half, like a boy."

Final score: Seahawks 43,  Broncos 8.
