Brooklyn's U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries Applauds Appointment of Special Prosecutor in Trump Case

Wednesday night, U.S. Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, a member of House Democratic leadership and the Judiciary Committee, released the following statement concerning the appointment of former FBI director Robert. S. Mueller to oversee the investigation into possible illegal collusion between the Trump team and Putin’s Russia:

“The appointment of the special prosecutor to oversee the criminal investigation into the Trump campaign’s possible illegal collusion with Russia is an important step in the right direction. America can now have a greater degree of confidence that the investigation will be fair, impartial and comprehensive. No man is above the law in this country. If Donald Trump broke it, he must be vigorously prosecuted without fear or favor.”

Mueller is considered by both Republicans and Democrats to be a serious, highly competent man.

(According to Politico,  some conservatives are hinting that Vice President Pence looks like a particularly good alternative to Trump  right now, especially as the Justice Department moves ahead with a special prosecutor for the FBI’s Russia probe.)

Get Ready for More 'Planned Flyovers' Over NYC

A Cessna 208B SKS Caravan by Shawn from Airdrie, Canada
Notify NYC tells us that we can expect "planned flyovers" in the wee hours of the morning (between the hours of 1 a.m. and 6 a.m.) from now until August. The city says  a low-flying Cessna 208 aircraft will be conducting "laser mapping of the NYC shorelines in all five boroughs. The aircraft will be flying at an altitude of approximately 1,475 feet and will be using a laser to measure erosion."

At the same time, Notify NYC also warns us of another set of planned flyovers that started April 8 and will continue until April 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., centered over Midtown Manhattan. In this case, the flyover will be conducted by a tan/brown/yellow PA 27 Piper Aztec aircraft with tail #N170TA.

Recent Activity

There have been numerous flyovers in recent months. There was a flyover on March 30: "Three helicopters at low altitudes conducting aerial photography," we're told.

And on March 25, eight Alpha Jets conducted a flyover in the vicinity of the Hudson River and the Statue of Liberty.

Just the day before, on March 24, we were told to expect "three helicopters at low altitudes conducting aerial photography."

Another flyover was set for March 13, this one with 10 military helicopters which were conducting an "exercise over NYC at an altitude of 500-1,000 feet."

And another one on March 5: the same tan/brown/yellow PA 27 Piper Aztec aircraft with tail #N170TA, flying over.

Wow, what a lot of flyovers! (We're assuming that some of this activity has to do with Trump, since it picked up with his election as president.)

So there's no need to be alarmed. If you see a plane buzzing your building, it's likely just your government (and your taxes) at work.

Yemeni Bodega Trump Protest Brings Thousands to Brooklyn Borough Hall

Photo by MK Metz for McBrooklyn
Thousands of Yemeni merchants -- owners of the corner bodegas and grocery stores we shop in every day -- closed shop yesterday at noon to trek to Brooklyn Borough Hall to protest Trump's travel ban.

The ban targets Muslims from seven countries:  Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Supporters of all ethnicities joined their fellow New Yorkers in a remarkable show of unity.

Brooklyn Student, Doctor Marooned Abroad by Trump's Immigration Ban

CUNY students outside Federal Court in Brooklyn. Photo: MK Metz
A Brooklyn doctor -- Dr. Kamal Fadlalla, who works at Interfaith Hospital -- and CUNY grad student Saira Rafiee are not allowed to return to the U.S. after vacationing abroad, as a result of Trump's controversial immigration executive order.

A protest organized by CUNY and attended by BP Eric Adams was held Monday outside of federal court in Brooklyn. More than 100 CUNY students are affected by the ban, school representatives said.

BP Adams read a letter from Saira that said in part, " I have no clue whether I would ever be able to go back to the school I like so much, or to see my dear friends there."

Federal Court was the center of a rally attended by more than 500 protesters Saturday night, when  Judge Ann M. Donnelly issued a temporary stay of Trump's order.

Women Are Getting It Done in Fighting Trump's Craziness

Women have been noticeably stepping up to the plate in saying no to Trump ....

From the attorneys volunteering at airports, to  the female judges issuing stays on Trump's immigration executive order, to the (now former) attorney general of the U.S. sacked by Trump for putting the Constitution ahead of his demands (weird plot twist here), to the Women's Marchers on Washington, NYC and countless towns and cities around the country, women are certainly doing their share.

All we can say is ... Yay, women, gettin' it done!
