Monday night, #PeoplesMonday demonstrated in Atlantic Terminal mall and shut down Flatbush and Atlantic avenues for Tyre King, a 13-year-old boy wanted for questioning in an armed robbery in Columbus, Ohio last week who ended up fatally shot by a police officer.

Atlantic Antic, World's Best Street Fair, Takes Place Without a Hitch Again

Anywhere from half a million to a million revelers visited Atlantic Ave. in Brooklyn on Sunday for the 42nd annual Atlantic Antic, one of the world's best street fairs and for sure the biggest.

The crowds browsed the delicious international food and drink tables, craft vendors, musicians and belly dancers, and rubbed cheek to cheek with local celebs, glad-handing politicians and community organizers.

Once again, the event went off without a hitch and hundreds of thousands of folks had a wonderful day.

Atlantic Ave. Sidewalks to Become Pop-Up Apartments and Workshops in NYCxDESIGN

 The Atlantic Avenue Business Improvement District will host “Design Walk” -- an interactive design experience involving more than 30 businesses -- on Saturday, May 7, from 3 to 8 p.m.

The sidewalks and side streets of Atlantic Avenue will transform into a series of pop-up apartment rooms, workshops and showcases as part of the 4th Annual NYCxDESIGN, New York City’s official celebration of design.

Grandma's House Restaurant, Near Barclay's Center, Is Pretty Adorable

If you like to eat in adorable restaurants, try Grandma's House, the all-American Brooklyn-themed diner at 364 Atlantic Ave., not far from Barclays Center.

The place is decorated with old beer taps, a model train, a vintage dial-style pay phone, Brooklyn Eagle reprints and other comfort decor.

The food will bring you back to the childhood you probably never had but wish you did -- flapjacks, mac n' cheese served in a skillet, meatballs, chicken pot pie, ribs, a bucket of chicken chips, with local fresh produce and a variety of salads. (The salads include an iceberg wedge, of course.) And to drink, a Fox’s U-Bet Brooklyn egg cream.

Not only does Grandma's House use locally-sourced food -- all the decor is American made, including the jukebox.

Violence at Brooklyn House of Detention on Atlantic Ave.

 Two inmates were stabbed in the stomach and an officer was punched in the head hours after correction officers found three blades inside the Brooklyn House of Detention at 275 Atlantic Avenue, according to the Daily News.

The Brooklyn jail has been called "a hotspot for violence" since last year, the News says.

Built in 1957, the jail can house 815 adult males, most undergoing the intake process or awaiting trial in Kings County (Brooklyn) and Richmond County (Staten Island) courts. (According to www.cobanyc.org)

Gunplay, Commotion Across the Street from Brooklyn's Barclays Center Early Sunday Morning

From the Scanner:

Cops were dispatched at 12:40 a.m. Sunday morning to Tony Roma's Restaurant at 673 Atlantic Ave., catty-corner from Barclays Center in Brooklyn, to investigate a complaint about a male with a firearm.

According to the dispatcher, the gunman had been inside the restaurant but then left the scene.

Dispatch said that the restaurant manager was currently holding the gun, and someone might be bleeding. (This has not yet been confirmed.) The perp fled East along Atlantic Ave. in a white sedan.

The gunman was described as black, wearing a dark hoodie and dark jeans.

Shortly after this assignment, another call came in reporting a "big commotion," a "dangerous condition" and a crowd at that location.

The 78th Precinct transferred this to the 88th Precinct, according to dispatch.

Get Ready for the 41st Annual Atlantic Antic, Coming to Brooklyn Sept. 27

The 41st Annual Atlantic Antic comes back to Brooklyn on Sept. 27, from noon to 6 p.m., rain or shine.

The Antic, presented by the Atlantic Avenue Local Development Corporation, is a uniquely Brooklyn street festival, and said to be the biggest in NYC. About a million people show up to enjoy local artisans, musicians, belly dancers and food, food, food -- with 600 vendors and ten live performance stages.

Families enjoy pony rides, storytelling, and face painting on a block dedicated to kid-friendly activities.

The theme of this year’s Antic is “The Youth Are Our Future.” The AALDC granted scholarships this year to twenty-three local children from low-income families to attend summer programs based in Brooklyn Heights, Boerum Hill, Fort Greene and downtown Brooklyn. Program partners like Mark Morris Dance Company and Brooklyn Ballet will be among the youth groups performing.

Vigil for Vision Zero Tonight (Tuesday) in NYC, Day After Tragic Barclays Crash

 Families for Safe Streets, an organization made up of relatives of people killed in traffic violence, is hosting a Vigil for Vision Zero tonight (Tuesday, July 14), 7 p.m. at Union Square Park North.

The vigil comes one day after a tragic crash on Flatbush, Fourth and Atlantic Avenues in Brooklyn, which killed a cyclist and injured six others, according to the Brooklyn Eagle.

The crash was caused by a a 37-year-old man who lost control of his SUV, leaving a blocks-long swath of death and destruction.

Brooklyn is the deadliest borough for pedestrians with 130 traffic deaths over three years, according to an analysis from the Tri-State Transportation Campaign.

More on Millions March NYC . . . Gracie Mansion is Next...

 Thousands joined the Millions March NYC, which started in Manhattan at Washington Square Park and wound through Union Square on Saturday. By the time darkness fell, the crowd had swelled to between 25,000 to 30,000, according to various news reports.

The amazing thing was the mixture of all ages and races.

As the evening wore on, some of the protesters stayed in Manhattan, while others streamed over the bridges into Brooklyn.

The mood was good -- until some a**hole got crazy on the Brooklyn Bridge and tried to throw a metal garbage can at police officers. When police went after him, a mini-riot erupted, which ended up with two cops on the ground getting kicked by some of the protesters. One cop's nose was broken.

Arrested for fomenting the melee was Eric Linsker, an adjunct English professor at Baruch College.

According to the University of Iowa Press, "Eric Linsker holds degrees from Harvard and the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. His poems have appeared in Boston Review, Chicago Review, Conjunctions, and Lana Turner. " He lives in Crown Heights.

According to CBS, Linsker's attorney called the charges bogus.

Police net at Tillary and Brooklyn Bridge Blvd.

After marchers exited the Brooklyn Bridge, a police net caused them to head up Tillary Street to Flatbush. All traffic ground to a halt while the street was filled with chanting protesters.

The group split up -- some marched along Atlantic, some on Smith Street -- and then recombined at Barclays Center for a couple of different die-ins.

According to the Brooklyn Eagle, police estimated that 2,000 demonstrators participated in the largest one. Another group, estimated at 1,500 by police, held a die-in in the middle of Eastern Parkway near Nostrand.

What's next? Word is protesters are unhappy that Mayor de Blasio refuses to meet with a group of them -- so they're going to the Mayor... tonight.

Eric Garner Protesters Shut Down Brooklyn Bridge

Marchers protesting the grand jury's failure to indict the police officer who choked Eric Garner shut down the Brooklyn Bridge around midnight Wednesday night.

A very large number of police vehicles surrounded the marchers as they walked over the bridge. Many sat down on the Brooklyn-bound roadway.

But it appears they are arresting many.

According to NYPD dispatchers, the Queensborough Bridge was also shut down --  along with  the Lincoln Tunnel, Grand Central and West Side Highway.

Around 1 a.m. Thursday morning the marchers poured onto Tillary, then procededed to Flatbush Ave.

The Brooklyn Bridge remained closed while those arrested were loaded into police vehicles.

Around 1:30 a.m., marchers were at Atlantic Ave. and Flatbush; the bridge was not yet fully open.

UPDATE: The Brooklyn-bound side of the Brooklyn Bridge has now been reopened. (Manhattan-bound is closed due to bridge work.)

Cops Chase Hundreds of Motorcycles on Atlantic Ave., Brooklyn on Sunday

It was wild on the streets in Brooklyn around 6 p.m. Sunday, when cops chased hundreds of motorcycles -- "driving dangerously, popping Willies" and "driving in the wrong direction," according to a police dispatcher.

The first alert went out at 6 p.m., where someone called the cops to report "200 ATVs headed towards Atlantic Avenue."

The responding officer replied, "Did you say 200?"

"That's what I got," dispatcher said.

At 6:11 p.m., NYPD dispatcher put out another alert. "Over 100 bikes, westbound on Atlantic Avenue, popping Willies."

At 6:17 p.m., cops were told riders were "going in the wrong direction" on Atlantic.

Nothing more.

Woodworking for 30 Years, on Brooklyn's Atlantic Avenue

While taking a walk down Atlantic Avenue in Downtown Brooklyn Monday, we couldn't help but admire the artistry of the piles of handcrafted wooden stuff in the window of Lorenzo Woodworks, 337 Atlantic Ave.

This woodworking shop has been on Atlantic Avenue for 30 years.

When we got home, we remembered that back in 2008, we wrote about one of the most beautiful wooden garbage bins we'd ever seen.  Looking back at that post, we were reminded that commenters told us it was made by Sal, of Lorenzo Woodworks.

Brooklyn: Atlantic Avenue Launches Children's Story Reading Series

Work by Local Authors read in Neighborhood Shops

Fun holiday activity for the little ones: Bring children ages 3-5 to hear stories by Brooklyn authors. Winners of the Atlantic Avenue Children's Literature Contest will read original stories along with selections from their favorite picture books.

Judging panel includes Brooklyn-native Bruce Degan, illustrator of 'The Magic School Bus' series. Kids will decide the Kids Choice Award by voting for their favorite story. Free hot chocolate provided by Sahadi's along with bookmarks for all -- but space is limited.

Scenes From Sunday's 2013 Atlantic Antic

We couldn't have asked for a finer day for this year's Atlantic Antic, which attracted a mellow crowd of thousands to Atlantic from Hicks Street to Fourth Avenue.

This year's corn was the sweetest we've ever tasted.

Music filled the streets and changed block by block. There were rockers, Gospel singers, Island music, and Arabic classics and belly dancing. Above, Brandi & the Alexanders had the crowd dancing at Hanks Saloon.

The Transit Museum displayed some of their vintage buses and trucks. Above is a 1930s-era Double Decker "Z-type." Inside was wooden accents, cushioned seats and roll-down windows.

Kids got to honk the horn in giant trucks, including this tunnel-cleaner truck with big brushes.

The nurses from the New York State Nurses Association collected signatures on a petition to save Long Island College Hospital (LICH).

Don't shoot!

There was a section reserved for kids activities next to the Transit area. Here kids were putting together modular tracks for the trains.

What a day! The Atlantic Antic is truly the best street fair in New York City.
