Tropical storm Arthur, which may become a Category 1 hurricane by Friday, may skim past New York City in time for the 4th of July fireworks, according to the National Weather Service.
Expect rain late Wednesday night, Thursday and into Friday. But if the prediction holds and the gods are true, the clouds will part Friday night and a glorious sky will reveal itself in time for the fireworks celebration for Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and the rest of the civilized world.
NOAA warns of a high rip current risk, so be careful if swimming in the ocean.
