Blackouts in Brooklyn, Brownouts in Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn

As the heat wave continues, Con Ed reports as of 5 p.m. that more than a thousand Brooklynites are without power while multiple Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods have had their power cut by 5 - 8 percent. Early this morning the company reduced voltage by 8 percent to the neighborhoods of Vinegar Hill, Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights, Downtown Brooklyn, Red Hook, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill and Cobble Hill.

Last night, Con Ed reduced voltage to other Brooklyn and Queens neighborhoods by 5 to 8 percent. Those Brooklyn neighborhoods are: Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Gowanus, Windsor Terrace, Borough Park, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Kensington and Dyker Heights.

Con Edison has set up a customer service van in Brooklyn today to take complaints and distribute dry ice.  Customer care representatives will be available to answer any concerns or questions. The customer van and dry ice distribution is located at East 21st Street and Foster Avenue in the Flatbush/Prospect Park South.

Commenters on the Brownstoner blog are reporting Con Ed robocalls, outages and brownouts in Downtown Brooklyn, Brooklyn Heights and nearby neighborhoods. One commenter wrote in at 4:47 p.m. today:
"Just had our elevators shut down in Bklyn Heights. The Con Ed memo notes that this could go on for three days. Now I've got a 6th Floor walk-up. I'm heading to the beach in the morning."
