Fireworks Over NYC, Brooklyn April 15 - Nope, Not a Tax Celebration

Those were fireworks, not thunder (or the wrathful celebration of the IRS) you heard Tuesday night, April 15 over New York City and Brooklyn.

The brief fireworks were set off over Ellis Island around 9:45 PM as an anniversary celebration by Amway China.

According to Ruby on Twitter, the celebration included a chorus singing opera, Chinese songs and gospel.

Saw them last night from my high rise windows in Boreum Hill. It was a beautiful display!

In Park Slope I heard the muffled noise and assumed the worst. I could not see the sky but in my mind something was blowing up in NJ or Redhook. It was drizzling and windy and I thought there was no way there was a fireworks display. It took me about 15 minutes of peering out of my door before I was comfortable a raging out of control fire was not about to consume my block.
