Trashed in Greenpoint

Did you know that women only started working in the NYC Department of Sanitation in 1986, and even now, out of 7,000 workers, only 200 women work in the department?

Greenpointers learned this at a talk by Robin Nagle at Acme Studios on Thursday entitled “Invisible Trash: Exploring New York City’s Garbage.”

Another interesting factoid: "Employee schedules and waste removal measurements are still written by hand in a book."
