Brooklyn Bridge Park's 'Modified Social Benches' Are Fun to Climb On, Too

Photo: MK Metz
16 curvy, orange  "Modified Social Benches" have popped up in Brooklyn Bridge Park. They may be fancy art, but people are having a great time climbing on top of them and crawling under them.

It happens the benches are part of Danish artist Jeppe Hein’s installation Please Touch the Art, which features sculptures designed specifically for public interaction. (So go ahead and climb.)

The exhibition includes two other types of work besides the benches: Appearing Rooms, a series of “rooms” formed out of jets of water; and a Mirror Labyrinth, featuring evenly-spaced pieces of mirror-polished stainless steel.

Learn more at Brooklyn Bridge Park. (They also provide a printable scavenger hunt to mark off the pieces you've seen.)
