The Brooklyn Eagle reports that after almost 70 years, Brooklyn's Empire Roller Skating Center has announced that it is finally closing its doors on April 23. Rink operator Michael Feiger said that it would be turned into a storage facility — online rumors said it would be used for a Costco warehouse. The Eagle says that the rink was built in the late 1930s on a site that had been used as a parking lot for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
