New Uncle Louie's to Open on Smith Street, Boerum Hill

Eli Janney sent in this cell phone photo of the forthcoming Uncle Louie's on Smith Street between Atlantic and Pacific.

Uncle Louie G has been making ices and ice cream in Brooklyn for years. (There are, at last count, eight locations in Brooklyn.) Commenters say the ices are unusually creamy and delicious.

Eli says the shop will open "where the odd clothing store was (guess Brooklyn Industry ran them out). Since I've lived here TWO Ben and Jerry's have come and gone(!) but hopefully the local fave will survive. I know my two kids are very excited we won't have to go to Park Slope to get a fix anymore."

Too bad they didn't stay on Henry Street. Now, Blue Marble will have competition. What clothing store did they take over?

That was Phil's Sportswear, at 101 Smith.

Phil's was there for years. Not OLD Brooklyn, but not NEW Brooklyn either.

Better (and more real) ICES at Court Pastry on Court Street at Degraw (oh yeah and cheaper too). That is if you like the real thing.
