David Byrne (Talking Heads) has converted the 9,000-square-foot landmark Battery Maritime Building into a giant playable instrument -- and today is the last day you can see (and play) the building.
Playing the Building is a "sound installation" in which the structure of the grand old building itself is converted into an instrument. Devices are attached to the metal beams, the pipes — and these are wired to an organ to produce sound when you hit the keys. The whole place vibrates, moans and squeaks. (It may not be in Brooklyn, but the line is shorter than the Brooklyn IKEA's!)
